Roulette Casino Tutorials: Betting Payouts, Roulette Table, Gambling Lessons
With numerous betting options available for casino roulette, the action indeed happens around the roulette table diagram with its colored, numbered squares and lines on which to place bets. As per usual, minimum and maximum bets are posted at each roulette table in the casino, and differ between Inside Bets and Outside Bets.
Each betting type has casino payout odds based on probabilities, which also differ between American and European roulette. Learn roulette gambling lessons on the different betting types and how to place each of those bets on Roulette Game Rules.
For example, a Straight Bet, which is a single number bet, has 37:1 odds of winning against the house on American roulette, and a 35:1 payout. A bet on three numbers, as in Street Bets, has 11.667:1 odds and an 11:1 payout. A bet on 12 numbers, as in Group, Column, and Dozen Bets, has 2.167:1 odds and a 2:1 payout.
A bet on 18 numbers, as in Even Money Bets, has 1.111:1 odds and a 1:1 payout. A bet on the row of green numbers, 0 and 00, has 18:1 odds and a 17:1 payout. And a bet on five numbers, row 0-00 and row 1-2-3, has 6.6:1 odds and a 6:1 payout.
To play casino roulette in a typical land-based setting, betting begins as soon as the croupier states, “Place your bets.” You place your chips on the designated area for your bet of choice at the roulette table. The croupier spins the wheel, then the ball, and declares, “No more bets.”After the ball lands on a numbered pocket, the croupier places a marker on top of the winning inside bet, clears the table, pays off all the winning bets.
To place inside bets, the total amount of all of your bets must equal at least the table minimum. Thus, to make straight bets at a $5 minimum table, you may choose to wager $1 on each of five numbers, or $5 on a single number, or $5 on any combination in between.
To place outside bets, every single bet must equal at least the table minimum, unlike with inside bets wherein you may combine several bets to reach the table minimum. Thus, to make red bets and odd bets at a $5 minimum table, you must place $5 on each of those two bets.
Also, you may not add the value of outside bets to inside bets in order to reach a total that meets the table minimum.
A third betting type, which some but not all casinos allow, are Called Bets, or Call Bets. They are based on the placement of numbers on the roulette wheel layout, not the roulette table diagram, and any of the bets may be combined.
Neighbours of Zero, or Voisins du Zero, are bets on wheel numbers 22 and 25 and all numbers in between. Bet chips in multiples of 9. The Third, or Tiers, are bets on wheel numbers 27 and 33 and all numbers in between. Bet chips in multiples of 6.
Orphans & Orphelins, are bets on wheel numbers on either side of the Voisins and Tiers – respectively, 17-34-6 plus 1-20-14-31-9. Bet chips in multiples of 5. Xx and the Neighbours are five-number bets on a single number plus two numbers flanking either side of that single number, like neighbors. Thus, 0 and the Neighbours is a bet on 0 plus 3-26 on one side plus 32-15 on the other side, or 3-26-0-32-15.
